District III Receives GIS Grant

District III received a grant from Rural Development to provide GIS training for local governments. Training will focus on ESRI Arcview. The Rural GIS Training Network (RGTN) will significantly enhance the capacity of county governments to effectively utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) technology in development related programs and services.

Recent Department of Environment & Natural Resources Grant & Loan Awards

Scotlandotland ~ $945,930 loan for storm water and sanitary sewer improvements
Plankinton ~ $3.27 million grant and loan package for water system and wastewater improvements
Utica ~ $7,890 grant and loan package for water tower


Leadership Change for Areawide Business Council, Inc.

Rod Hartog, former Chairman of the Areawide Business Council, Inc., was recently recognized for 18 years of service on the Board of Directors, 16 of those years as Chairman. Rod recently resigned his position on the board in order to devote more time to other development concerns including wind energy in Gregory County. Larry McManus, Rod's successor to the Chair adds, "Rod will leave big shoes to fill. He has provided strong leadership and continuity for our organization. He has been instrumental in facilitating the growth of the RLF as over the years we have become recognized as a real partner in economic development in our region." McManus, a founding member of the council, will well serve the board as he is highly respected in the region and has worked in economic development for years. McManus brings institutional memory and strong leadership capability to the board.


Two New Members Elected to Board of Directors for Areawide Business Council, Inc.

Larry McManus, Chairman of the Areawide Business Council, Inc., is pleased to announce the election of Tovi Cox-Bartels and Rick Hogue to its Board of Directors. Tovi is employed as the Executive Director of the Tripp County Office of Development and South Central Development Corporation, and Rick is Sr. Vice President with First Fidelity Bank - Burke. "Tovi will be a valuable addition to the board given her background experience in community and economic development," and "Rick will be a valuable addition to the board with 23 years of banking experience" McManus says.


MTI Awarded EDA Grantrant

Mitchell Technical Institute has received approval of an Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to purchase a full size training turbine for its wind technician program. The project is a cooperative effort with Basin Electric, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and General Electric Corporation.
